Farm/Retreat/Vacation/Sanctuary/Ranch Rural Property Caretaker

Hi there, my name is, Debbie and I’m an experienced property caretaker (over 7 years) who is available for a long-term live-in caretaker position in the Ottawa Valley/Kingston area where I will maintain and protect your rural property on site. Caretaking includes safeguarding adjacent outbuildings, equipment, gardens, acreage, fields, water systems, and ensuring that everything is running smoothly. Open to negotiating other possible responsibilities as well, including AirBnb management and animal care. You can check out my website to get to know me better https://debbieoffgrid.rf.gd/

The way I see it, the caretake mindset is a Zen practice of its own. Unlike a landscape provider, gardener, general contractor, or a house or pet sitter, the caretaker offers so much more than casual help. A caretaker provides the highest level of service managing a home or property. She requires high intelligence, social IQ, profound integrity, and great attention to detail. The caretaker role occupies a unique category of its own. It is so much more than a job; it is a reciprocal relationship built on the greatest of trust and RIG: Respect, integrity, and generosity of Spirit.

Quiet, reliable, resourceful, compassionate, personable, and with impeccable listening and communication savvy that embodies the philosophy of open, clear, honest, and direct. Flexible and pick up new skills quickly and easily. Canadian born and raised. No smoking/drinking/drugs/pharmaceuticals. No drama.

From 2018 to 2023 I was the live-in caretaker of a lovely 22-acre property in the Mississippi Mills area. My caretaking responsibilities included basic house maintenance and repairs, fence mending, interior painting, exterior deck staining, land stewardship, and ensuring that appliances, machinery and the well and septic system were well-maintained and in order. I assisted with grass cutting in the warmer months, trail maintenance year-round, and managed the snow removal over the winter months. I also ensured the property was kept safe from break-ins and breakdowns with my consistent presence.

In Autumn 2023 I headed west to care for a 6-acre rural sanctuary in Coastal B.C. I’d also cared for this same property in 2017. Live-in duties at this beautiful place included the care of two elderly dogs, basic house maintenance, veggie gardening, light yard work, and the safekeeping of the property with my consistent presence.

I’m ready to take on a new a opportunity in mid August with specific interest in the Carp, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Arnprior, Renfrew County, and North and South Frontenac areas. I’m also open to any other areas within 2ish hours of driving time to Kanata.

I live a peaceful life with my two canine and feline companions, the loves of my life. I’ve intentionally chosen to leave a ‘trail of awesome’ wherever I am, and with whomever I engage. It’s also important to me that the places and spaces I occupy are better because of my presence. This simple modus operandi makes life great for all.

As a semi-retiree, the peace of country life, along with hiking, paddling, swimming, yoga, and meditation keeps me balanced and fit. Before discovering the world of on-site caretaking and the reciprocity it offers for all involved, I owned a thriving dog walking and petsitting business in the Ottawa Valley that was as much about attentive and loving care as it was about solid relationships.

My past life experiences include being a two-time published author, podcast creator/host, fitness trainer, triathlon and swim coach, long-time volunteer with various wildlife rehab sanctuaries, and graphic/digital designer for over three decades. As a life-long athlete, including the accomplishment of Ironman triathlon finisher, I know intimately the meaning of motivation, focus, discipline, and commitment. When I operate from a peak state of wellness, I’m at my best for all living beings. Along with an aptitude for versatility, I’ve m also an avid organic veggie gardener with a passion for discovering, and continually learning about, wild edible plants and mushrooms.

I’m happy to provide as many personal and character references as needed. I look forward to connecting with serious and respectful inquiries only.
